The Dare

Geology. Paleontology. Human history. The story of Tumbler Ridge is huge and timeless.

Double Dare was asked to design an exhibit introducing the Tumbler Ridge Global Geopark to their community. Working with a small footprint and a modest budget, we delivered a large story in a small package.

The Outcome

Double Dare created a simple and effective display that would engage locals about the landscape they know and love.

With space and funds at a premium, every exhibit element had to serve a purpose:

  • Features a broad range of elements: artifacts, archival images, touchable specimens, fossils, maps
  • Taps into local knowledge with a book that guests can add to
  • A portion of the exhibit can be updated using locally available material
  • Provides storage of programming elements for visiting school groups

The remote location of the exhibit posed a challenge. Rather than fabricate the exhibit in a larger city and ship it the North, Double Dare worked with the client to identify local suppliers. This retained most of the production within the community while the design team coordinated and managed the production remotely. Items that couldn’t be produced locally were procured by the design team and shipped independently at a lower cost.

We also connected the client to a professional mount maker who consulted them on how to handle and mount their objects and artifacts for a professional looking display.

Looking for an exhibit that tells big stories? We'd love to design it for you!
