The Dare

Change doesn't always come easily...

Staff at the Richmond Olympic Experience were looking for solutions to update the temporary exhibit area of the gallery. When Double Dare undertook the redesign of the display cases, we were asked to make it easier to change the exhibits without incurring huge additional costs.

The Outcome

Many museums face the challenge of updating their content. To ease the process of changing displays at the ROX, we proposed a number of flexible furnishings, including:

  • an adjustable cable system for graphics and light weight items
  • a series of slotted vertical tracks to support heavier items
  • removable panels for the back of the case
  • reading rail graphics and display plinths

Working with the City of Richmond, Lord Cultural Resources, and Skyline Atlantic, we filled the retrofit cases with a dynamic display of Olympic Mascots.

The layered display features three full-size mascot costumes from the Vancouver 2010 and Calgary 1988 Olympic Winter Games, a mascot timeline, peek-a-boo windows, and a mass display of mascot merch.
