To create an informative, engaging exhibit for kids about the world’s two most populous cultures, China and India. The challenges:
- Kids Around the World was a new, unknown and untried society looking for credibility
- The concept alone had to generate financial support <liThis needed to be a travelling exhibition
Double Dare sunk its teeth in, with project management, research and content development, thematic and spatial planning, and exhibit design and detailing. The finished exhibit, which is adjustable in size, can be assembled without hand tools in six hours and disassembled in three. Children astounded parents and staff alike with the level of engagement. They averaged over an hour per visit, occasionally playing at individual exhibits for over 45 minutes.
The exhibit was purchased by the Manitoba Children’s Museum in 2007 and traveled to venues across Canada.
Over the past two years I have had the great pleasure of working closely with Melanie of Double Dare Design while she designed our hands-on exhibit Tigers and Dragons: China and India for Kids. Melanie is a joy to work with in every way. She is both extremely organized and very creative - two attributes that do not always come together in one person. She was open to my suggestions but she also took the lead when I needed her to do so. She worked well with all the contractors she hired on our behalf – getting us good deals and making sure everything was well made. Melanie is reliable, hard-working, fun, passionate about her work, and an excellent project manager. The exhibit she created with the meager resources we supplied was magnificent! Melanie went above and beyond for us and I am sure she will for you too!Jessie Smith Producer, Executive Director Kids Around the World
